How to Clean and Maintain an Epoxy Floor: A Guide for DFW Homes and Businesses
One of the best things about an epoxy floor is how little work it takes to keep it looking new. Whether it's a garage in Keller or a shop floor in Fort Worth, the routine is the same. Here's how to care for it.
Everyday care
Sweep or dust mop often. Grit and sand are what dull a floor over time, so get them up before they get ground in.
Mop with warm water and a mild, pH-neutral cleaner. A capful in a bucket is plenty. Skip soap-heavy cleaners that leave a film.
Wipe up spills promptly. Oil, antifreeze, brake fluid and chemicals clean right up when they're fresh.
What to avoid
Harsh acids, citrus or vinegar cleaners used full-strength
Abrasive pads and wire brushes
Dragging sharp metal across the floor; use a piece of plywood or furniture pads instead
Garage floors
Rinse off road grime and salt now and then, especially after trips out of state in winter. A squeegee pushes water out the door fast. Hot tires won't hurt a properly prepped floor with a polyaspartic topcoat.
Commercial and industrial floors
In restaurants, shops and warehouses, an auto-scrubber with a neutral cleaner keeps busy floors clean without wearing the finish. Set a regular schedule for high-traffic lanes and wash bays. Put walk-off mats at entrances to catch grit before it spreads.
